ACL 13-97: CalWORKs Changes To Asset Limits For Families That Include Elderly Or Disabled Household Members (12/12/13)

Aligning CalWORKs to CalFresh: In October 2011, the Food and Nutrition Service increased the asset limit for CalFresh households in which there are elderly and disabled members to $3,250. CalWORKs is following suit. Counties must make this change immediately.

In addition, if Counties denied or discontinued a family as a result of exceeding the $3000 asset limit, the county must re-evaluate eligibility for the AU and restore any benefits lost.   Same for reviewing overpayments for excess resources for any period after September 30, 2011.  [Download]

ACL 13-88: Households Leaving CalWORKs Due To Failure To Provide A Complete SAR 7 (10/23/13)

Notification of a change in policy regarding Transitional CalFresh.  People discontinued from CalWORKs for failure to turn in their SAR 7 will no longer be eligible for transitional benefits. Also for failure to do annual redeterminations.  In the event that the person submits a SAR7 deficient for CalWORKs but sufficient for Calfresh, the county process for ongoing eligibility, converted to a non-assistance CalFresh household, and retain the current certification period.  Benefits will be not include the CalWORKs grant.
