California has a federal waiver which allows counties to deny a CalFresh application before the 30th day after the application is filed when the applicant does not provide requested verification within 10 days of the request. See ACL 24-30, summarized here.
Effective June 1, 2026, in addition to the 47 counties initially covered by the waiver, five additional counties, Alpine, San Benito, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, and Sierra, are covered by the waiver and can deny a CalFresh application before the 30th day after the application is filed when the applicant does not provide requested verification within 10 days of the request.
